Most of you know about Simon’s recent foot surgery. Which incidentally has kept me out of the blog world for awhile. But if you don’t keep reading otherwise just tune out for a bit and we’ll get back to you in a moment.
Simon was diagnosed with Congenital Vertical Talus, sometimes called rocker bottom foot, which basically means the vertical talus(bone) needs to be horizontal. If your riveted by my amazing medical knowledge and want to learn some more about this click here. Kind of a rare condition, but definitely fixable. The surgeon will basically insert a pin about 6 or 7 inches long after he has worked on the foot to hold the bones in place for three weeks. Then he will be recast while the bones continue to heal . The first three weeks=no walking! Eek help me!!! One of our friends, who is an Orthopedic Surgeon Resident recommend a fantastic Pediatric Orthopedic Surgeon and we feel so blessed to have had Dr. Jeffers work on Simon’s foot.
His surgery went very well. He stayed one night in the hospital so they could watch his foot for infections etc. When I was in the recovery room with him, poor guy was so anxious and fidgety, so I brought him his favorite blanket and he immediately pulled it over most of his head and settled down for a nap. It was so precious.
We spent most of the day together in the hospital. Liv did a good job taking care of her brother. We went on lots of wagon rides and had an unlimited supply of popsicles. What a way to spend their birthday.
Over the next few days…………….
We all adjusted to finding ways to keep Simon off his foot. And we went on lots of walks.
This is how Simon felt the first few days
This is what working some magic mommy mojo looks like
